For over 60 years, the International Development Association (IDA) has been at the forefront of the global fight against poverty. Since its inception in 1960, IDA has supported almost 7,400 projects in 115 countries.
Improving Lives, Growing Sustainable Economies For decades, IDA has focused on investing in people through nutrition, health care, quality education and skills development, and social protection.
Advancing Women’s Well-Being and Economic Empowerment Increased share of women benefiting from job-focused interventions in IDA countries by supporting Economic Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs, Preserving Development Gains and Preparing for Peace has been it's ongoing missions.
The World Bank works with humanitarian, development, peacebuilding, security, and private sector actors to remain engaged in fragility, conflict and violence settings and maximize impact to the countries it supports. Building Resilience in a growing crisis of climate change by generating renewable energy and providing a transformational knowledge product informing meaningful climate action had led to comprehensive climate action in many developing countries helping them create sustainable renewable energy sources.
IDA has emerged as the largest financing arm of the World Bank in the last few years, and demand for IDA finance is poised to remain high as poor countries face a worsening global outlook. Providing support during the crises of the last three years— including COVID-19, war and increasing fragility, deepening food insecurity, and the impacts of climate change— are on going missions of IDA.
